MIRROR-MESH PROJECTION

The forward trajectory of the narrative is undermined by a second channel of video. A mechanical device reflects and “sprays” pieces of the primary video around a gallery space in a choreographed movement pre-determined by software/hardware.

The Story of Elfranko Wessels (2011-14)

17 minutes (color, HD) and 2-channel video installation

Synopsis The Story of Elfranko Wessels depicts the challenges faced by a collaborating New York City artist-couple in incorporating another person and point-of-view into their practice. Literally ensconced within the self-referential tradition represented by their white-walled live/work loft, they invite a South African émigré, Elfranko Wessels, in for an interview. Elfranko tells a story of escape from his confining, racist family and final arrival to the US, but by way of the occupying artist-couple — who have substituted their own singing voices for his plain speech.
